This is something I have to say. There was something that happened here in Citrus County that did not receive any media attention of any kind because they did not know about it but I believe everybody should know about some of the bikers in Citrus County. There are a number of local events here in Citrus County that take place to help the needy, like the Toy Run that takes place every year, but some of us feel we need to do more. On Sunday, the 18th of December, 2005, which was very cold and raining, about 40 individuals, a number of them were on their motorcycles, gathered in a parking lot in Homosassa Springs. The motorcycles were lined up in front and a bright red pick-up truck behind them. Inside the pick-up rode Santa (AKA: Wild Bill) and driving the pick-up was Mike Fagan, the person who organized this. In the back of the pick-up were 10 20lb frozen turkeys and all the trimmings to make 10 Christmas Dinners. Plus there were 10 large Wal-Mart Gift Cards. Mike had gotten a list of 10 needy families here in Citrus County and Mike and the rest of us wanted to make sure they had a good Christmas Dinner.
We pulled out of the parking lot around 12 noon and headed out Cardinal St to our first stop and our spirits were high. (It wasn't raining yet, just cold.) After the first stop we headed out to CR491S to CR480E to US41N to our next stop in Inverness. Just before CR480 is when we hit the first down pour. Needless to say the ones on their motorcycles got soaked. But nobody would quit, what we were doing was important to us and our spirits stayed high no matter what kind of weather came our way. Every once in a while we would stop someplace to try and dry out or wait out the rain. Our third stop was north of Hernando on SR200N. After that we headed across CR39W to US41N to SR40W to Inglis. We hit more rain but still didn't stop. After Inglis we headed south to Crystal River for more stops and then back into Homosassa Springs and Old Homosassa for the rest of them. Altogether we road close to 100 miles and our bikes got dirty as hell. After the last turkey and trimmings were given out we all got together at a local pub where there was pizza for all of us. The ones who rode their motorcycles were still soaked but the smiles on the little kids faces at all the stops was all we needed to help warm us up.
Santa (AKA: Wild Bill) did a great job. He had a bag filled with candy canes and every kid got some along with a big hug from Santa. The looks on those little kids faces filled everybody's hearts.
Some of our stops were in areas where there were a number of needy families and we wanted to help them all but knew we couldn't. So next year Mike wants to do it again but a lot bigger. If there is anybody out there who would like to help Mike help some of our local needy families just contact me or Mike. Here is a copy of a letter written by one of the needy families we helped. (Nothing in this letter has been changed.) To Mike’s Friendly Pub I’ve been putting off writing this Thank You card because what you all did for my daughter and myself was so awesome, shocking, out of this world, so nice that I can’t think of the proper words to say to thank you all for the generosity and kindness and love you all made us feel. To know that there are people like you left in (this world of unkindness) made me feel so grateful and full of happiness to see how much you all really genuinely really care about others to be on your motorcycles on a cold rainy day like that to give to others, showed that you all have so much human compassion for others. You are all GREAT and from the bottom of our hearts we thank you for the food, turkey and Wal-Mart gift certificate. Thank You All and God Bless You All! Personal Notes |
